Keep Your Property Safe During Wildfire Season

Clear the Area Around Your Home of Anything That Will Burn

Did you know that yard work can help protect your property from wildfire?

Take part in National Wildfire Community Preparedness Day on May 5. Clear your property of dried leaves, branches, and other items that may fuel a wildfire.

Minimize damage and prevent losses with these landscaping recommendations from the National Fire Protection Association:

  • Clear leaves and other debris from gutters, eaves, porches, and decks.
  • Remove flammable items within 30 feet of all structures including firewood piles, portable propane tanks and dry and dead vegetation.
  • Prune trees, so the lowest branches are 6 to 10 feet from the ground.
  • Keep your lawn watered and maintained. If it is brown, cut it down to reduce fire intensity. Dry grass and shrubs are fuel for a wildfire.
  • Do not let debris and lawn cuttings linger. Dispose of these items quickly to reduce fuel for a fire.
